Dhurandhar 2 Dominates Box Office as Streaming Rights Shift to JioHotstar
Dhurrandhar 2 is continuing its strong dominance at the Bollywood box office. Starring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, the sequel has maintained consistent success since its release, with its momentum remaining steady even in the second week.
Meanwhile, the original ‘Dhurrandhar’ has remained in the top rankings since it began streaming on Netflix. However, a major shift has occurred regarding the streaming rights of its sequel, ‘Dhurrandhar: The Revenge’, also directed by Aditya Dhar. The first poster of ‘Dhurrandhar 2’, released on Tuesday, clearly indicates that the film’s streaming partner will be JioHotstar. According to a report by India Today, streaming rights are often determined through competitive bidding. While Netflix had acquired the rights to the first film, JioHotstar secured the rights to the second installment at a higher price.
As per convention, films are typically released on OTT platforms 8 weeks after their theatrical debut. Accordingly, the sequel to ‘Dhurrandhar’ may begin streaming on JioHotstar around 14 May. At the same time, the film’s music rights have also changed. The soundtrack of the first installment was released by Saregama, whereas the music rights for ‘Dhurrandhar: The Revenge’ have been acquired by T-Series. Sources indicate that fans are eagerly awaiting ‘Dhurrandhar 2’, and trade analysts have already declared it a blockbuster. The film, one of the most anticipated releases of the year, hit theatres on 19 March.
According to data from Indian tracking platform ‘Sacnilk’, the film’s worldwide earnings reached 1,392.23 crore rupees by its 12th day of release.
Of this, 1,042.23 crore rupees came from India and 350 crore rupees from overseas markets. In the domestic market alone, earnings stood at 872.17 crore rupees by the second Monday.
Overall, the film is now very close to entering the 1,500 crore club, just a few crore rupees short. It has already surpassed the earnings of blockbusters like Jawan, K.G.F: Chapter 2, and RRR. Its next target on the list is Pushpa 2: The Rule, which has earned over 1,742 crore rupees.
However, the biggest challenge remains Dangal’s global record of 2,070 crore rupees, which still stands unbeaten. Analysts are now asking whether ‘Dhurrandhar 2’ can reach that milestone as well.
Released in December 2025, the film stars Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and Madhavan, among others. With equal popularity in both domestic and international markets, ‘Dhurrandhar 2’ has emerged as one of the biggest box office contenders of the year.
