In a major leap toward providing high-speed, secure, and affordable internet across the country, an regional Point of Presence (PoP) for ISPAB-NIX has been established in Rajshahi. The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) expressed optimism that this regional exchange point, set up in collaboration with the Internet Society and Trust, will revolutionize internet services across the eight districts of the Rajshahi division.

In a press release issued on Monday, ISPAB confirmed that local ISPs in the Rajshahi division have already begun providing services on an experimental basis by connecting to this NIX PoP. The formal inauguration is expected to take place next month. This PoP will not only enhance the interconnection capabilities of local ISPs but also allow general subscribers to enjoy uninterrupted internet at double the speed. Beyond ISPs, Nationwide Telecommunication Transmission Network (NTTN) providers, International Internet Gateways (IIG), and both government and private organizations will benefit from this advanced technological facility.

The press release further highlighted plans to install Cache Services at this PoP, which will facilitate the delivery of high-volume bandwidth at low costs to marginalized communities. This boost in internet performance is expected to stimulate economic growth and foster new entrepreneurs in sectors such as e-commerce, freelancing, online education, and telemedicine.

Technology experts believe this regional hub will serve as a milestone in bridging the digital divide and driving the economic development of people in remote areas. ISPAB-NIX functions as a central hub to ensure improved internet services and save foreign currency by reducing dependence on international bandwidth. Similar PoPs have previously been established in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, and Mymensingh. By creating opportunities to exchange internal internet bandwidth locally, ISPs can now provide services at a much lower cost by reducing their reliance on expensive international links.
