A new battle royale mode is set to arrive in the popular first-person shooter game Call of Duty. Titled “Black Ops Royale,” the free-to-play game mode will launch on 13 March, according to Engadget.

“Black Ops Royale” has been developed as a tribute to “Blackout,” the first battle royale mode introduced in 2018 under Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. In this new mode, 100 players will compete in 25 teams of four members each.

The match will take place on a massive map named “Avalon.” Unlike Warzone, the mode will not feature familiar elements such as loadouts, the Gulag, or Buy Stations. Players will need to collect weapons scattered across the ground to strengthen themselves. The mode will emphasize acquiring and upgrading weapons from Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.

In addition to weapons, players will be able to customize their playstyle through an open-ended perks system. Features such as weapon handling and bullet drop have been reworked in a manner reminiscent of the original Blackout experience, while also taking into account the expectations of modern Warzone players.

The game’s development teams, Treyarch and Raven Software, stated that “Black Ops Royale” will offer players a distinct and more tactical battle royale experience, entirely dependent on weapons and equipment collected from the ground.

The new game mode will be available to play free of charge starting 13 March.
