Social media giant Meta Platforms has appointed Dina Powell McCormick, a former official of the Trump administration, as its new President and Vice Chair. The company made the announcement on Monday. Analysts believe the move is aimed at strengthening Meta’s lobbying efforts in Washington. Reuters reported the development.

Following the announcement, US President Donald Trump congratulated Dina Powell McCormick in a post on the social media platform Truth Social. He said that she had carried out her responsibilities in the Trump administration with competence and dedication.

Meta said that in her new role, Powell McCormick will work on expanding data centers, building strategic capital partnerships, and enhancing the company’s long-term investment capacity. She previously spent 16 years in top leadership roles at Goldman Sachs. In addition, during Trump’s first term, she served as Deputy National Security Advisor, and earlier held the position of White House advisor in the administration of President George W. Bush.

According to analysts, at a time when Meta is facing challenges in the artificial intelligence sector, this appointment is politically and strategically significant for the company.
