BYD Debuts Dynamic Sealion 5 SUV in Bangladesh Market
The country’s automobile market has entered a new era of modern and environmentally friendly mobility as BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, officially unveiled its latest DM-i Super Plug-in Hybrid technology SUV, the ‘BYD Sealion 5’, in Bangladesh. The vehicle was launched on Saturday afternoon, 28 February, at a grand ceremony held at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital.
Marketed under the slogan “Everyday SUV,” the vehicle’s first batch of 25 customers received their keys on the very day of the launch from BYD Bangladesh.
The event was attended as chief guests by Hafizur Rahman Khan, Chairman, and Amid Sakif Khan, Managing Director, of CG Runner Bangladesh Limited, the National Distributor of BYD Bangladesh. The presence of senior officials of BYD, media representatives, and automobile enthusiasts created a festive atmosphere at the ceremony. The vehicle’s modern design combined with cost-efficient technology drew significant attention from attendees.
In his remarks, Hafizur Rahman Khan highlighted BYD’s global commitment to reducing carbon emissions by 1 percent through environmentally friendly vehicles.
A presentation at the event showcased the vehicle’s most remarkable feature—its dual-power system. Equipped with a powerful 1500cc electric motor and an advanced DM-i engine, the BYD Sealion 5 offers a combined driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers. For daily urban commuting, it provides a pure electric range of up to 71 kilometers, significantly reducing fuel consumption to near zero. The SUV can accelerate from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 7.7 seconds and delivers a maximum power output of 156 kilowatts and 300 Newton meters of torque. As a result, it ensures outstanding performance on both highways and city roads.
The manufacturer claims that there has been no compromise in terms of safety and comfort. The Sealion 5 features the industry-leading BYD Blade Battery and seven airbags. It is also equipped with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The spacious interior cabin includes a 12.8-inch infotainment display and a panoramic sunroof, offering a premium travel experience for both driver and passengers.
Imtiaz Nausher, Chief Marketing Officer of BYD Bangladesh, stated that contemporary buyers seek both fuel efficiency and long-term comfort assurance. The Sealion 5 is designed to meet that demand by delivering the experience of an electric vehicle for daily commuting while eliminating range anxiety or concerns about battery depletion during long journeys.
The vehicle is available in four attractive colors—Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Gray, and Harbor Gray. A special price of Tk 4.79 million has been set for the first 500 customers. Buyers will also receive an attractive warranty package, including an eight-year or 160,000-kilometer warranty on the traction battery and a six-year warranty on the entire vehicle.
Expressing optimism about the SUV’s market prospects, the company’s Head of Sales, Fahmid Ferdous, said the substantial number of pre-orders received at the launch event indicates that the vehicle is expected to gain widespread popularity in the domestic market.
