Online applications for death registration have once again been opened to the public. Since November 21 last year, death registration applications had been processed exclusively through registration offices. On Monday, February 23, the service was reopened for public access.
The information was disclosed in a notice published on the website of the Office of the Registrar General, Birth and Death Registration.
According to the notice, in order to enhance the security of the Birth and Death Registration Information System (BDRIS), death registration applications were processed only through registration offices from November 21 to February 23. As the public site’s online death registration service had been temporarily suspended, applicants were required to submit applications using the user ID of an assistant (authorized user) at the relevant registration office. However, the online death registration application process itself had never been completely closed.
The notice also provided statistics on death registrations from November 2025 to January and up to February 23 of the current year.
For online death registration applications, applicants must visit bdris.gov.bd/dr/application and search by entering the deceased person’s birth registration number and date of birth. After retrieving the information, the form must be completed accordingly.
Applicants are required to provide the date and cause of death (such as old age or illness), place of death, and both present and permanent addresses. The information provider, typically a relative of the deceased, must include their name and national identity card details. Necessary documents—including the death certificate issued by a hospital or physician, or burial/cremation documentation—must be scanned and uploaded.
After verifying all information, the application must be submitted online. A printed copy should then be taken, and the application must be submitted within 15 days to the relevant Union Parishad, Municipality, or City Corporation office as required.
Required documents include a copy of the deceased person’s birth registration certificate, proof of death issued by a hospital, physician, or local ward member, and the applicant’s National Identity Card (NID).
Once registration is completed, the death certificate can be collected either online or from the respective office.
