Apple Eyes Deep Red Debut for iPhone 18 Pro
Citing technology analyst and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, various international media outlets have reported that Apple Inc. may introduce a new “Deep Red” color option for its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. This would mark a departure from the understated metallic finishes typically associated with the Pro models. The news was reported by Engadget.
According to Gurman’s report, Apple became more interested in introducing bolder colors following the success of the “Cosmic Orange” variant launched with the iPhone 17 Pro in 2025. The orange shade gained significant popularity in the Chinese market, where users referred to it as “Hermès Orange.” As red symbolizes good fortune in Chinese culture, analysts believe the potential introduction of a deep red option could carry particular cultural significance.
Previously, Apple introduced a (Product) Red iPhone with the iPhone 14 series. However, that version was released in the standard model rather than the Pro lineup. As a result, the upcoming release could mark the first time a red finish appears in a Pro model. Although there were earlier rumors of purple and brown color options, Gurman suggests those may actually be different variations of the proposed deep red shade.
Meanwhile, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, tentatively referred to as the iPhone Fold, is expected to adopt a more conservative color strategy. The device may avoid “fun colors” in favor of primary tones such as dark gray or black and white or silver. Experts view this approach as a strategy to simplify and reduce risks in the production process of the new form factor.
The iPhone 18 Pro series and the potential iPhone Fold are expected to be unveiled in September this year.
