CUET Launches ICE Student Chapter and Hosts Accreditation Seminar
The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has inaugurated the Institutional of Civil Engineers (ICE) CUET Student Chapter under the initiative of its Civil Engineering Department. The chapter’s activities were officially launched on Sunday, February 1, in the seminar room of Academic Building 1 by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya.
Earlier the same day, a seminar was held in CUET’s Academic Council Room organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). Additionally, condolences were expressed for the passing of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia at the 142nd Syndicate meeting held in the university’s Syndicate Room.
At the ICE CUET Student Chapter inauguration, the chief guest was Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, along with former Chairman of the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) and ICE Representative for Bangladesh Dr. A F M Saiful Amin, President of the Bangladesh Association of ICE Student Chapters Engineer Nashid Islam, and General Secretary Dr. Engineer Khandakar Shakil Ahmed.
The event was chaired by Head of the Civil Engineering Department Professor Dr. Md. Riaz Akhtar Mallick. Welcome remarks were delivered by Director of CUET IQAC and Civil Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiya, while the program was conducted by 22nd batch Civil Engineering students Anindya Sarkar Onkon and Fahim Nuzhat Jahin.
Earlier, at the seminar titled “Quality Assurance in Engineering Education through Accreditation”, CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya emphasized the need for modern and up-to-date curricula to ensure educational standards. He highlighted the importance of subject diversity, interdisciplinary coordination, and integration of the latest scientific and technological advancements into education. He further stated that accreditation is not merely institutional recognition but a strong means of quality assurance, continuous improvement, and establishing a position at international standards. Accreditation allows educational programs to be measured against global benchmarks and progress continuously as required.
The seminar featured special guest Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan. Resource persons included Dr. A F M Saiful Amin, Engineer Nashid Islam, and Dr. Engineer Khandakar Shakil Ahmed. The seminar was presided over by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiya and conducted by IQAC’s Additional Director Professor Dr. Md. Sanaul Rabbi.
In the morning, the Syndicate meeting chaired by the CUET VC was attended by Deans of Architecture and Planning Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain, Director of the Institute of River, Harbor and Environmental Sciences Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, Director of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology Professor Dr. Mohammad Moshiul Haque, BUET Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Ainal Haque, JU Computer Science and Engineering Professor Dr. Mohammad Zahidur Rahman, CU Islamic History and Culture Department Professor Dr. Md. Sekander Chowdhury, retired DG (TSC) and DMD (BTBL) Engineer Khan Ataur Rahman, Chairman of Chattogram Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury, CUET Mathematics Department Professor Dr. Sunil Dhar, and CUET Humanities Professor Dr. Mohammad Mostofa Kamal. Online participants included Divisional Commissioner of Chattogram Dr. Md. Ziauddin and Additional Secretary (Universities) of the Ministry of Education Miz Alif Rudaba.
The Syndicate meeting was conducted with the university Registrar (Additional Charge) Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir as Secretary. Syndicate President Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya formally welcomed the new Syndicate member, Chattogram Board Chairman Professor Abdullah Al Mamun Chowdhury.
