Big Tech Weighs Billions for OpenAI Boost
Major global technology companies Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon have entered a fresh round of discussions over large-scale investment in the artificial intelligence sector. Citing The Information, Reuters reported that the three companies are in talks to invest up to USD 60 billion in OpenAI. Reuters reported the development.
According to the report, existing OpenAI investor Nvidia alone is considering an investment of up to USD 30 billion. Nvidia supplies the chips used to run OpenAI’s AI models and has been a key technology partner for the company.
Longtime collaborator Microsoft, meanwhile, is reportedly in discussions to invest less than USD 10 billion. Microsoft has already invested heavily in OpenAI in previous funding rounds and remains one of its most significant strategic partners.
On the other hand, Amazon—currently in talks as a potential new investor—may invest more than USD 10 billion, with the amount possibly exceeding USD 20 billion, the report said.
Sources indicated that OpenAI could soon receive investment commitments or term sheets from these companies. However, none of the firms involved provided immediate comments on the matter. Earlier reports also suggested that SoftBank Group is in discussions to make an additional USD 30 billion investment in OpenAI.
Industry analysts say the cost of training and operating advanced AI models is rising rapidly. At the same time, growing competition from rivals such as Google is intensifying pressure, making fresh investment increasingly critical for OpenAI’s continued growth and competitiveness.
