The first tangible outcome of Apple’s newly announced partnership with Google on artificial intelligence could emerge soon. According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, Apple plans to unveil a new version of Siri in the second half of February, which will utilize Google’s Gemini AI model. The news was reported by TechCrunch.

The update will allow Siri to access users’ personal information and on-screen content to perform a variety of tasks. This release is being seen as the first real-world implementation of capabilities Apple promised in June 2024.

However, this is not the end. Gurman notes that a larger upgrade may be announced in June at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference. That version is expected to make Siri more conversational, akin to ChatGPT, and could run directly on Google’s cloud infrastructure.

Earlier concerns about Apple’s AI strategy and internal issues have surfaced, but the partnership with Google and the departure of AI chief John Giannandrea indicate that the company is moving forward on a new path.
