CUET Celebrates Competitive Carnival at Annual Sports Meet 2026

Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) hosted its “Annual Sports Meet 2026” in a festive and vibrant atmosphere on Wednesday, January 21, at the university’s central playground. Shawon Barua was crowned the fastest man, while Jarin Tasmin Saba secured the title of fastest woman at the event.

In the male individual category, Shawon Barua emerged as champion, with Tarikul Islam finishing as runner-up. Among the residential halls, Muktijoddha Hall clinched the hall championship title, while Shaheed Tareq Huda Hall became runner-up.

In the female individual category, Jarin Tasmin Saba was named champion and Nusaiba Sibli runner-up. Shamshen Nahar Khan Hall won the hall championship among female students, followed by Taposi Rabeya Hall as runner-up.

Among faculty members, Professor Dr Md Sanaul Rabbi of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was declared the fastest man. In the officers’ category, Md Mustakin, an Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, secured the fastest man title. Among third-class employees, Nazrul Islam, a technician from the Department of Disaster Management and Engineering, won the fastest man title, while among fourth-class employees, Kawsar Hossain, a laboratory assistant from the Department of Physics, was adjudged the fastest man. The best rally awards were won by Muktijoddha Hall, Begum Shamshen Nahar Hall and Shaheed Tareq Huda Hall, respectively.

The closing ceremony was graced by CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya as the chief guest.

This year’s annual sports meet featured 36 events, with around 1,200 participants comprising students, teachers, officers and employees. The programme began with a colorful rally as students from five male and three female residential halls entered the field in procession. The Holy Quran was recited by Hafez Qari Maulana Nurullah, Senior Pesh Imam of the CUET Central Mosque.

Following the rendition of the national anthem, the Vice-Chancellor officially inaugurated the sports meet by releasing doves and balloons symbolizing peace. Students from each hall then paid tribute to the chief guest through an organized march-past around the field. During the event, Jitu Debnath, a student of Dr Qudrat-e-Khuda Hall, carried the ceremonial torch around the ground.

Professor Dr Ashutosh Saha of the Department of Mathematics served as the field marshal for this year’s sports meet. Also present were Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering Professor Dr Kazi Delwar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Dr Asiful Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology Professor Dr A H Rashedul Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Professor Dr Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning Professor Dr Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, and Registrar (Additional Charge) Professor Dr Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir.

The programme was presided over by CUET Director of Student Welfare Professor Dr Md Mahbubul Alam, while the event was conducted by CUET Deputy Director (Public Relations) Md Fazlur Rahman.
