After dominating the world of short-form videos, TikTok has now stepped into the short drama market. The Chinese-owned social media platform has quietly launched a separate microdrama app called ‘PineDrama’, which has already been rolled out in the United States and Brazil. The app is available on both iOS and Android platforms, according to TechCrunch.

PineDrama primarily features fictional stories presented in one-minute episodic formats. In essence, it functions much like TikTok, but with each video serving as a sequential episode of a storyline.

The app is currently free to use and does not display advertisements, though ads may be introduced in the future.

Through the app’s Discover tab, viewers can browse popular and trending dramas. The platform offers content across various genres, including thriller, romance, and family drama. Shows such as Love at First Bite and The Officer Fell for Me have already gained popularity. Users can also access viewing history, create favourite lists, and leave comments.

Earlier, TikTok had introduced a microdrama section called ‘TikTok Minis’ within its main app. With this new standalone initiative, TikTok has entered direct competition with popular platforms like ReelShort and DramaBox.

According to Variety, the microdrama industry could grow into an annual market worth nearly $26 billion by 2030.
