DMP Seeks Public Help to Trace Suspect in Shooting of Inqilab Mancha Spokesperson Osman Hadi
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has sought public assistance to trace a suspect following a shooting attack on Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a parliamentary candidate from Dhaka-8, who was critically injured in an attack in the capital’s Bijoynagar Box Culvert area.
According to police, Osman Hadi was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants on Friday, 12 December. Based on CCTV footage analysis, investigators have initially identified a suspect and are conducting an intensive manhunt across the city.
In a press release issued on Saturday, 13 December, the DMP said it is urgently searching for the suspect and requested anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the police through 999 or the following numbers:
-
DC Motijheel: 01320040080
-
OC Paltan: 01320040132
Police assured that informants’ identities will be kept confidential and that rewards will be offered for credible information.
Meanwhile, several digital investigations and media reports have claimed that advanced tools—including artificial intelligence-based facial analysis, Google reverse image searches, and cross-platform digital data comparison—were used to examine CCTV footage and publicly available images.
According to these reports, the individual seen firing from the back of a motorcycle bears a resemblance to Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan—a former student leader and former office bearer of Chhatra League (Dhaka North). He is also reported to have been associated with YCUE Technology Ltd., a Bangladeshi software and game development firm that produced Battle of 71, the country’s first computer game based on the Liberation War, released in 2016.
Digital investigative outlet The Dissident reported that it compared over 50 images collected from CCTV footage dated 9 December and 12 December, media photographs, and social media profiles under the name Faisal Karim Masud, and found multiple visual similarities, including facial features and a distinctively designed wristwatch.
Reports further claim that the suspect was seen sitting beside Osman Hadi at a meeting on CCTV footage and had previously participated in Hadi’s election campaign activities. These claims, however, are based on media investigations and social media analysis, and have not yet been officially confirmed by law enforcement.
Police reiterated that the suspect remains at large, and investigations are ongoing.
