The Department of Clinical Oncology at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has organized a workshop titled “Workshop on Structured Clinical Assessment (SCA)”. The program was inaugurated on Thursday, 4 December, by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam.

In his inaugural address, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam said that SCA is a highly significant initiative for improving the quality of education, modernizing assessment systems, and producing specialists of international standards. He noted that the method offers scientific and reliable guidelines for evaluating students’ clinical competence, decision-making ability, and patient-centered service quality.

The session was presided over by Professor Dr. Syed Md. Akram Hossain, Chairman of the Clinical Oncology Department. He stated that BMU is committed to producing competent, ethical, and globally recognized oncology specialists, and modern assessment methods will further strengthen that mission.

Faculty sessions were led by Professor Tahmina Begum, Councillor and Director of the Department of Medical Education at BCPS, and Dr. Md. Russell Ahmed, Assistant Professor of Medical Education, Public Health and Informatics at BMU. Throughout the daylong workshop, participants received hands-on training on SCA philosophy, station development, assessment rubrics, objective scoring, and feedback mechanisms.

Faculty members from BMU’s Clinical Oncology Department, as well as instructors from the National Institute of Cancer Research, Dhaka CMH Cancer Center, and Dhaka Medical College’s Radiotherapy Department—along with specialists from various institutions in Clinical, Radiation, and Medical Oncology—took part in the workshop.

Participants also engaged in effective group work on station design, scoring techniques, and feedback mechanisms. Organized by the Department of Clinical Oncology, the workshop is expected to further strengthen BMU’s ongoing efforts to deliver high-quality postgraduate education and develop skilled oncology experts.
