Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) Vice President (VP) Sadiq Kayem has filed a complaint with the Cyber Support Unit of the Detective Branch (DB), alleging targeted online smear campaigns involving false and fabricated content.

On Monday, 1 December, at around 3:30 pm, he submitted the written complaint at the DB Cyber Support Center located at Minto Road. After filing the complaint, he briefed journalists at the DB office gate, detailing the allegations and the platforms involved.

According to Sadiq, the complaint lists 11 Facebook pages and personal accounts accused of spreading misinformation. The pages include ডাকসু কণ্ঠস্বর, BongoGraph, আমার ডাকসু, The Nationalist Data, কাঁঠেরকেল্লা, রৌমারি, DU Insiders and ইয়ার্কি. The three personal Facebook accounts named are those of Enamul Haque Shanto, Ashiqur Rahman, and Saif Al Mahmud.

Sadiq said each of the pages mentioned is linked to a political party, adding that various activists from Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and BNP operate these platforms. He confirmed that DB has already received the links to the accused pages and that cyber specialists have begun examining the complaints. The BRTA has also been notified to take necessary measures, he added.

He further stated that a cyber support center will soon be established at Shahbagh Police Station to ensure that students can safely and conveniently report incidents of online propaganda, cyberbullying, and harassment. Additionally, DUCSU has launched a digital complaint box through which the organisation’s Law and Human Rights Secretary will review and respond to submitted complaints.

Citing an example, Sadiq noted that the Facebook page BongoGraph shared false propaganda about him the previous day, later issuing an apology. Despite this, all pages and accounts involved have been included in the complaint. He expressed hope that law enforcement will take strong action against those spreading misinformation and harassing students, candidates, and female students.

He added that he would also file a copy of the case at Shahbagh Police Station to strengthen the legal process, emphasising the need for exemplary punishment to deter future misconduct.

A day earlier, on the night of 30 December, Sadiq had announced on his Facebook profile that he would be pursuing legal action.

Sadiq further stated that various anonymous and unverified pages have been spreading fabricated and misleading content targeting him. He said a fake photocard containing misinformation was circulated using these pages, prompting him to seek legal remedy.
