JUST VC Moves to Ensure Safety and Support for Injured Students After Clash with Locals
To ensure the overall safety of all residential and non-residential students of Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), along with proper medical care and compensation for the injured, JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid visited the university’s two residential halls to check on the injured students staying there. During the visit, he assured the students of full medical and psychological support.
On Wednesday, 26 November, the JUST Vice-Chancellor convened an emergency meeting at the conference room of the administrative building following the unexpected incident. In the meeting, he took measures to conduct a proper and swift investigation into the clash that occurred between some local miscreants and university students. Later in the afternoon, he personally inspected the two residential halls to see the students injured in the confrontation with locals.
Wishing the injured students a speedy recovery, the Vice-Chancellor said, “Ensuring the safety of our students is our highest priority. We are working together with the market committee and local administration to reach a permanent solution so that such incidents do not recur.” He instructed the hall provosts to immediately arrange residential facilities for non-residential students and requested all department heads to take special measures so that the studies of the injured students are not hampered.
The VC also formed a committee to ensure the overall security of the students. He instructed the committee members to promptly contact the students living in nearby messes and ensure their safety. Additionally, he directed the committee to sit with local mess owners and market representatives to work toward a permanent resolution.
The emergency meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, was attended by the Treasurer Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, deans of different faculties, chairpersons, provosts, and members of the proctorial body. Teachers, students, officers, and staff of the university expressed solidarity and assured support for the injured students. In the afternoon, the university administration filed a formal complaint at the Jashore Kotwali Police Station through the proctorial body, and the accused individual has been brought under legal action. The campus is currently calm, with additional police deployed.
