Cloudflare Chaos: Calls for .BD and .বাংলা Domains
Critical technology service Cloudflare, which ensures website security and keeps sites operational during traffic surges, temporarily disrupted access by sending sudden 500 error messages. Websites hosted on Cloudflare suffered nearly four and a half hours of downtime. Since around 80% of the country’s news sites are hosted on this cloud, news delivery was significantly affected.
To avoid such disruption in the future, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, urged the use of Bangladeshi domains—.বাংলা and .BD.
On Tuesday, November 18, at around 8:15 pm, he posted this appeal on his Facebook account.
In his post, Foyez Ahmad Tayyeb wrote: “Cloudflare is down worldwide. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket—use .বাংলা and .BD domains. Recently, we have started appointing resellers for .বাংলা and .BD. You can also apply if you wish!”
Meanwhile, due to a major network fault in Cloudflare in the evening, services were disrupted globally, causing numerous websites dependent on Cloudflare to temporarily go offline. By 10 pm, the situation had returned to normal.
