Netflix Nixes Studio Behind ‘Squid Game: Unleashed’
Netflix has shut down the game studio behind its mobile title Squid Game: Unleashed, as part of a strategic shift in its video game division, reports Reuters.
David Reppy, co-founder and former CEO of the studio, confirmed the news in a LinkedIn post on Thursday, saying, “It’s sad news, but I’m grateful for the experience of working at Netflix.”
Netflix had acquired the studio, Boss Fight Entertainment, in 2022. The studio also developed Netflix Stories in addition to Squid Game: Unleashed. Despite the closure, both games will remain available on the Netflix platform.
The move comes as Netflix restructures its gaming strategy. The company now plans to focus more on party, kids, narrative-driven, and mainstream games.
Netflix Co-CEO Greg Peters recently stated, “We want to build more narrative-driven games like Squid Game: Unleashed in the future.”
