In a landmark initiative, Robi Axiata PLC and Give Bangladesh Foundation have ensured access to clean and safe drinking water for residents of Wakchaku Para in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban. The project now benefits 417 residents, including 134 schoolchildren, providing them with safe water throughout the year.

As part of the joint project, two reservoirs with a capacity of 5,000 liters each and a 2,500-foot-long pipeline have been installed, overcoming the challenges of the hilly terrain. The system naturally purifies the water and ensures uninterrupted supply even during the monsoon season.

Previously, residents had to climb 1,500 feet uphill to collect water from unsafe sources. The new system has reduced water collection time by up to 70 percent, allowing them to use the saved time for education, employment, and household activities. It is also expected to significantly reduce the risk of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, and dysentery.

Robi Axiata PLC’s Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, Shahed Alam, said, “Ensuring safe water is not just a basic necessity; it is the foundation of health, education, and a dignified life. Rabi is committed to improving the quality of life for marginalized communities, and this project stands as a reflection of that commitment.”

Give Bangladesh Foundation’s Executive Director, Ahmed Fahmi, added, “Through innovative engineering solutions and active community participation, we have created a sustainable water system that has brought positive changes to the lives of people in remote areas.”

The project directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on good health and well-being, as well as clean water and sanitation. As a responsible corporate entity, Rabi continues to play an active role in promoting sustainable and inclusive development — and this initiative marks another meaningful step in that journey.
