Tarique Talks to Trusted Veteran in Touching Virtual Meet
Amid widespread media coverage surrounding an exclusive interview given to BBC Bangla after nearly two decades, the Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Tarique Rahman, held a virtual meeting with veteran Pirojpur BNP leader Motaleb Akon.
According to local party sources, Motaleb Akon, a founding member and senior figure of the Pirojpur District BNP, had long expressed his desire to meet Tarique Rahman in person. A recent special report aired on a private television channel brought this long-standing wish to the attention of the BNP Acting Chairman.
In response, Tarique Rahman immediately instructed Atiqur Rahman Rummon, Convener of "Amra BNP Poribar" (We Are BNP Family), to get in touch with Motaleb Akon and take necessary steps to arrange the meeting. Preparations for the virtual interaction began shortly thereafter.
Finally, on the evening of Monday, October 6, Tarique Rahman joined the elderly leader via video conference from London, connecting directly to Mulgrom in Pirojpur Sadar. The emotionally charged encounter began with warm greetings and mutual respect.
Addressing Motaleb Akon, who was seated in a wheelchair, Tarique Rahman stated:
"In the past, many people have been persecuted. Many have been martyred. It’s enough. Even if there are differences of opinion, let us move away from conflict and chaos. Let us build a new Bangladesh based on merit. Those who may fall behind in this race, we will ensure they can still survive in the battle of life. We are planning so that the children of Motaleb Sahib's family—those who are still struggling—can earn honestly in the future."
Calling upon his party members and followers, Tarique Rahman urged them to engage in solving the country's fundamental issues:
"We have had enough of protests, slogans, rallies, and meetings. Now let us focus on surviving the battle of life and work to gradually reduce the fundamental problems people face. Let us compete in making plans and implementing them to bring relief to people. Those who are given the opportunity by the public should be able to implement those plans. In the future Bangladesh, no one should be physically harmed because of political differences."
Also present during the meeting were BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Chief Adviser of "Amra BNP Poribar" Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Convener Atiqur Rahman Rummon, Joint Editor of Daily Kaler Kantho and Director of Ziaur Rahman Foundation Hafiz Al Asad Said Khan, along with leaders from various levels of the organization.
