JUST Hosts Jubilant Journey on World Physiotherapy Day

In line with 129 countries around the globe, Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) observed the 30th World Physiotherapy Day 2025 on Monday with a series of vibrant programs, including free medical services, cake cutting, a celebratory rally, oath-taking, a seminar, a freshers’ reception, and cultural events. The daylong activities were organized by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (PTR).
This year’s theme, celebrated worldwide on September 8, was “Preparing for healthy ageing starts in youth.” The primary aim of the observance was to raise public awareness about the role of physiotherapy and physical activity in maintaining health during old age and preventing frailty and fall-related complications.
The day’s events began at 10 a.m. when JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid inaugurated the free medical services. This was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and a jubilant rally that started from the Dr. M. R. Khan Medical Centre, circled the Kabi Nazrul Academic Building and the Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose Academic Building, and concluded in front of the administrative building. Later, a range of health sessions, exercises, and indoor games were arranged for elderly guests from an old-age home, invited through the Rotary Club.
As part of the ongoing events, a seminar was held at 3 p.m. at the Professor Mohammad Sharif Hossain Gallery, with JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “Jashore University of Science and Technology was the first university in Bangladesh to open a Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation. Teachers and students of this department have already organized various programs, including free medical camps in rural areas. Physiotherapy is one of the essential branches of healthcare. Providing every branch of healthcare properly is the only way to ensure accurate treatment for patients.”
He further shared his personal experience, saying, “I myself have been receiving physiotherapy treatment for some time and have felt better. I call upon all physiotherapy service providers to educate themselves further in higher studies, develop their skills, and become more qualified so that they can ensure the highest quality of service. Since our university is located in a remote area, we are unable to bring everyone under the umbrella of medical services. Therefore, a site has already been selected in Jashore city where a state-of-the-art physiotherapy centre and modern research laboratory will be established. This facility will provide advanced and quality healthcare not only to local patients but also to those coming from distant areas.” He concluded by wishing success for the observance.
The seminar was presided over by Dr. Ehsanur Rahman, Chair of the PTR Department. Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Khan Masum Billah, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Dr. Md. Jafirul Islam, author and researcher on gerontology Hasan Ali, and Dr. Bappi Kabishekhar Parmita, consultant at the Disability Service and Support Centre, delivered speeches. The event was attended by JUST faculty, students, officials, and staff. It was conducted by Dr. Kazi Md. Arman Hossain, Lecturer of the PTR Department.
In the evening, a captivating cultural program was staged by students of the department, marking the conclusion of the celebrations.
