Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo Begins NID Services for Expatriates
The Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo has launched National Identity Card (NID) services for expatriates. According to embassy sources, applicants must first complete an online form through the designated website, and subsequently visit the embassy to submit biometric data along with necessary documents.
On Friday, August 22, the service was formally inaugurated at the embassy hallroom by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission.
In his speech as the chief guest, Akhtar Ahmed stated, “Many Bangladeshi expatriates in Japan do not have National Identity Cards. As a result, they face difficulties in availing various services in Bangladesh. From now on, expatriates in Japan will be able to access all NID-related services through the embassy.”
He further added, “Arrangements are also being made so that expatriates can vote in the next election through postal ballots.”
Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan, Md. Daud Ali, remarked, “After a long-standing demand, the introduction of NID services in Japan will provide significant benefits to Bangladeshi expatriates.”
The inauguration event was attended by officials of the Election Commission, representatives of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Japan, and embassy staff.
