CUET Cautions 10 Students with Show-Cause Notice over Harassment Incident

The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) authorities have issued show-cause notices to 10 students in connection with a harassment incident on campus.

The accused are Md. Rafi Ahmad Bhuiya, Abdullah Al Nasir, Sazzad Hasan, Tanvir Khan, Monsur Alam Siam, S.K. Fahim Ahmed, and Md. Atikur Rahman Fahim from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Sakhawat Hossain Sajib from the Department of Mechanical Engineering; Ahmed Itisar from the Department of Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering; and Montasin Hossain Mahi from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

The notices, signed by Professor Dr. Md. Mahabubul Alam, Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare, were issued separately on August 18 (Monday) evening.

According to the notice, based on a complaint signed by the Provost of Muktijoddha Hall, it was learned that on August 13, at around 1 a.m., when the Provost and Assistant Provosts entered Room N-512 of Muktijoddha Hall during inspection, they found the listed students from the 23rd batch harassing nine students of the 24th batch.

As the accused students were found directly involved in the incident, show-cause notices were issued against them.

The accused have been instructed to appear in person at the Directorate of Student Welfare by 3:00 p.m. on September 3 to submit their written explanation. At the same time, they are required to participate in a personal hearing to present their defense.

Professor Dr. Md. Mahabubul Alam, Director of the Directorate of Student Welfare, said, “The CUET administration is determined to eradicate ragging and drugs from the campus. There will be no compromise in these matters.”
