Biman Bolsters Safety with Swift and Strategic Measures

Following recent technical issues in some of its flights, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has undertaken a series of immediate and long-term measures. A four-member high-powered investigation committee has been formed to conduct a detailed review of technical problems that occurred between July 1 and August 13.
The committee will examine maintenance records and operational processes of each flight-related incident, determine the root causes, and identify the responsibilities of officials or employees in cases of negligence or dereliction of duty.
Placing the highest priority on passenger safety and service quality, Biman is ensuring comprehensive investigation and accountability for every incident, said Biman’s General Manager (Public Relations) ABM Raushan Kabir on Tuesday morning, August 19.
He stated that an investigation has already been ordered into the toilet flush-related incident on the Dhaka–Abu Dhabi flight. “The committee will also make recommendations on measures to prevent recurrence of such problems. It will submit its report within 10 working days.”
As part of ensuring accountability, changes have already been made in personnel management. Two officials have been reassigned, while further changes are being finalized. One engineer has been transferred as a punitive measure, and another engineer in Chattogram has been served a show-cause notice.
The press release further stated that to enhance technical capacity, Biman has arranged to stock additional spare tires at various outstations (such as Jeddah, Dubai, Madinah, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah) so that replacements can be made quickly in emergencies. Necessary tires have already been ordered for procurement in this regard. Additionally, the Director (Flight Operations) has been instructed to investigate the tire burst incident in Jeddah. Direct supervision has been intensified under the oversight of the Director (Engineering & Material Management) and the Chief Engineers.
Furthermore, from Monday, August 18, a special night maintenance shift has been introduced to provide round-the-clock technical support. Simultaneously, a comprehensive review of Biman’s inventory management system is underway. Discussions are ongoing with Boeing to reconsider the Component Services Program (CSP) list, while spare parts stock is being redefined according to the Recommended Spare Parts List (RSPL). The Tailored Part Package (TPP) is also under review based on actual operational data.
Meanwhile, recurrent training for engineers has been launched, and recruitment of new apprentice mechanics is underway to strengthen long-term technical capacity. These initiatives aim to increase manpower, build internal expertise, and reinforce reliability.
With utmost emphasis on passenger safety and trust, Biman Bangladesh Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining maximum technical reliability and the highest safety standards.
