Air Chief Appeals For Not To be swayed By Misinformation And Rumors Amid Tragedy

Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan has urged the nation not to be swayed by misinformation and rumors circulating on social media in the wake of the tragic aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara.
Speaking at the ceremonial farewell for Flight Lieutenant Tawkir Islam on Tuesday, July 22, at Kurmitola Air Base, the Air Chief said, “Please do not pay heed to the various rumors and misinformation on social media during this time of national crisis.”
He stressed the vital role of the armed forces in preserving national sovereignty. “A strong air force is indispensable for a nation’s independence and sovereignty. Please do not weaken the pillars of our sovereignty by spreading falsehoods.”
Senior officials from the army, navy, and air force were present during the tribute ceremony. Expressing his deep sorrow, the Air Chief said, “Like all of you, my heart is also broken by this tragic incident.”
Explaining his prompt return to the country, he said, “I had just departed for an official emergency trip. I returned this morning from that very airport.”
He added that rescue efforts were launched immediately using helicopters and urgent medical assistance was arranged. “A high-level investigation committee has already been formed to determine the nature of the fault. The findings will be revealed soon,” he said.
On the treatment of the injured, Air Chief Marshal Khan said, “Alongside the government, the air force will remain firmly beside the victims and their families. We will ensure that all necessary medical support is provided.”
The crash of an air force fighter jet into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara on Monday has so far claimed 31 lives and left 165 others hospitalized, according to ISPR.
