Bangladesh Begins Selection for Junior Science Olympiad Delegation
Bangladesh is set to participate in the 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO), scheduled to be held in Russia from November 23 to December 2, 2025. To select the national delegation, the 11th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (BdJSO) will be held across all eight divisions of the country.
Online registration has already begun for interested students from primary and secondary levels who have a passion for science. Participants may register through the provided link, and upon registration, they will compete in the regional round, representing their respective divisions.
Winners from the regional events will advance to the national round in Dhaka, after which approximately 40 top students will be selected for the BdJSO residential camp. In this intensive camp, participants will receive rigorous training and preparation. Based on performance at the camp, a team of 10 to 15 finalists will be selected. After a one-and-a-half-month training phase, 6 students will be chosen to represent Bangladesh at the IJSO, with 4 students placed on the waiting list.
The Olympiad will be held in three categories to accommodate students from different academic levels. The Primary Division is open to students from classes 3 to 5, the Junior Division includes classes 6 to 8, and the Secondary Division encompasses classes 9 and 10, including those sitting for the 2025 SSC exam and students in class 11. To qualify, participants must be born after January 1, 2010.
The core subjects of the Olympiad are Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, aligned with the national curriculum. Questions will generally be drawn from the respective class-level science textbooks and may also include interdisciplinary problems combining elements from all three subjects. While the regional rounds will feature short-form questions, the national round will include both short and descriptive formats.
As in previous years, the Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad is jointly organized by the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and the Society for the Popularization of Science in Bangladesh.
