ISPR Denounces Distortion of Army Headquarters' Letter on Police Incident

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has stated that a recent letter from the Bangladesh Army Headquarters regarding alleged harassment of army personnel by police has been misinterpreted on social media.

In a press release issued late Friday night, July 11, ISPR clarified that “a recent administrative letter from the Army Headquarters was circulated on social media, which sought a list of incidents involving alleged harassment of army members by the police at different times.”

The statement further explained: “This letter was issued solely in response to a request for information from the ‘National Independent Investigation Commission’ formed to investigate the barbaric massacre during the BDR mutiny at Pilkhana. Subsequently, to avoid any possible misinterpretation or unintended reaction, the Army Headquarters immediately nullified the letter.”

ISPR emphasized that a “vested interest group is deliberately misrepresenting the matter to create misunderstanding and mistrust between the Bangladesh Army and the Bangladesh Police.”

It reaffirmed that both the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Police have long been working together with “mutual respect, coordination, and professional camaraderie” in ensuring the nation’s security and law and order — a tradition that will continue.

ISPR urged all concerned to refrain from spreading misleading or intentionally distorted information regarding this issue on social or mass media.
