Social video platform TikTok has launched a new search guide to help users in Bangladesh access accurate and reliable information about the current flood situation. The guide aims not only to inform users about the state of floods this monsoon but also to counter misinformation and rumors related to natural disasters.

In a press release issued on Thursday, July 10, TikTok announced that users who search for flood-related content will now see a banner prompting them to verify information from trusted sources. The banner will also offer guidance through a dedicated search guide, connecting users with reliable institutions such as the Bangladesh Government’s Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

The guide also includes a link to TikTok’s Safety Center, along with access to the Tragic Event Support Guide for emotional and psychological assistance.

The guide provides an easy explanation of what qualifies as a “tragic event,” including natural disasters, accidents, or personal loss. It further outlines how users can responsibly share or report content related to such incidents on the platform.

Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for TikTok South Asia, said, “In times of crisis, quick and accurate information is crucial. By collaborating with those directly involved in disaster response, we’re making important information more accessible and clearer to our users. This will help raise awareness and empower people to stay safe.”
