Apple has appointed longtime executive Sabih Khan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), replacing Jeff Williams as part of a long-term succession plan, the company announced in a statement on Tuesday, July 8, according to Reuters.

Khan, who has been with Apple for nearly 30 years, currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Operations. He joined Apple’s procurement group in 1995 after previously working as an application development engineer and technical leader at GE Plastics.

Jeff Williams, the outgoing COO, will continue to oversee the design team and Apple Watch operations through the end of this year and will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. After his retirement, Apple’s design team will report directly to Cook.
