Chinese National's Phone Snatched, Swift Recovery by Chattogram Police

Police in Chattogram’s EPZ area have recovered a mobile phone stolen from a Chinese national within 24 hours of the incident. Three individuals suspected of involvement in the robbery have been arrested, and two steel knives allegedly used in the crime were seized from them.
According to police, Zheng Qing Xin (52), a technician at New Era Fashion BD Ltd., was walking through the main gate of the BEPZA residential area on the morning of June 9 when he was confronted by a group of three to four unidentified individuals. One of them allegedly brandished a knife and forcibly took a HUAWEI Nova 13 smartphone from Zheng’s pocket. The phone is estimated to be worth around BDT 35,000.
Following the incident, Rubel Das (40), a storekeeper at the same company, filed a case with EPZ Police Station on June 10 (Case No. 08 under Sections 392/34 of the Penal Code). Sub-Inspector (unarmed) Md. Abdul Wadud Chowdhury was assigned to lead the investigation.
On June 11, police conducted a series of raids across different locations within the EPZ area and apprehended three alleged members of the robbery gang. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Hridoy (28), Md. Ferdous Hasan (29), and Raju Majumder alias “Kan Kata Raju” (32). Law enforcement also recovered the stolen smartphone and two knives from their possession.
“Since the incident, we launched operations based on specific intelligence,” said SI Wadud Chowdhury. “The arrested individuals are members of an organized robbery gang. We have information that they were involved in similar crimes in the past.”
Police stated that legal proceedings are underway against the three suspects. Efforts to apprehend other members of the gang are ongoing.
