Falsehoods on Facebook: Film Star Bobita Denies Health Rumours

Farida Akhtar Bobita, popularly known as Bobita, recently became the subject of concern among fans after a photo showing a hand with a cannula went viral on Facebook, accompanied by a caption reading, “Since coming back to the country, I’ve spent most of my time confined indoors. That’s why illness won’t leave me.” The post, dated Monday (April 21), appeared to suggest the retired actress was seriously unwell.

The news quickly spread across social media, causing anxiety among her followers. However, it was later confirmed that Bobita is not unwell. The misleading post originated from a fake Facebook account using her name.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Bobita clarified, “I don’t use Facebook. I’ve said this many times. Yet such a sensitive piece of misinformation was spread from Facebook—it has deeply upset me.”

Bobita previously took legal action over similar impersonation issues. “I have taken legal steps in the past, but the individuals behind the fake account and the spread of such news could not be identified,” she explained.

The internationally acclaimed actress recalled another distressing incident: “Earlier, news of my death was spread on Facebook. Just imagine the state of mind of my relatives upon hearing such shocking falsehoods. Honestly, I don’t know what to do about it anymore. I’ve given up.”

Calling for stricter action against fake social media accounts, Bobita emphasized the emotional toll such rumours inflict. She added, “I’m currently at my home in Gulshan, Dhaka. By the grace of Allah, I am in good health. Please make it clear that I do not have any Facebook account and that I am safe and well at home.”
