BMU Begins Three-Day Training on Evidence-Based Medicine

A three-day training workshop on Evidence-Based Medicine has commenced at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). The inaugural session was held on Tuesday, April 15, at the conference room of BMU's Super Specialized Hospital. The workshop was formally inaugurated by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, who attended the event as the chief guest.

Delivering his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam emphasized the contemporary relevance of evidence-based medicine, stating, “Evidence-based treatment is crucial in modern medical practice. If implemented properly, it can greatly benefit patients. When physicians follow established guidelines, patients receive high-quality care. Even if different doctors are involved, patients will still receive appropriate and standardized treatment.”

On the first day of the workshop, the keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Shakur, Chairman of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of BMU, the workshop involves participation from 20 faculty members and medical professionals from the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Surgery, Paediatrics, and Internal Medicine. The session was presided over by IQAC Director Professor Dr. Nurun Nahar Khanom and jointly conducted by IQAC Additional Director Dr. Din-e-Mujahid Mohammad Faruq Osmani and Dr. Tarek Reza Ali.

On the second day of the workshop, the keynote address will be delivered by Professor Dr. M. Mostafa Zaman, Executive Editor of the BSMMU Journal. The third day will feature a keynote address by Professor Rumi Ahmed Khan, MD, FCCP, from the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas, Austin, USA.
