Plastic Practices and Planet: Daylong Workshop Promotes Sustainable Use
In a collaborative initiative by the Department of Environment and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), a daylong training workshop on the sustainable use of plastic products was held on Tuesday at the Senate Hall of the University of Dhaka. The event brought together students from the University of Dhaka, BUET, Dhaka Medical College, and environmental volunteers.
Presided over by Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Dhaka, the workshop featured the participation of several prominent figures. Among them were Dr. Abdullah Al Mamun, National Project Director from the Department of Environment; Professor Dr. Md. Ridwanul Haque; UNIDO Bangladesh Country Director Dr. Zaki Uz-Zaman; UNIDO National Expert S. M. Arafat; Director General of NDC Dr. Md. Kamruzzaman; Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Fahmida Khanam; Professor Dr. Ejaz Ahmed; Head of Sustainability at PRAN-RFL Group Sumaiya Tabassum Ahmed; Dr. A. H. M. Mostafa Kamal; Professor Dr. Md. Mofizur Rahman; and Deputy Project Director of the Department of Environment Kazi Suman, along with students from various universities.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized the urgent need for sustainable management through reduction, reuse, and recycling of plastic waste. “We all must work toward saving ourselves, as this is a question of the survival of our entire civilization,” he said. Dr. Khan also assured the environmental student activists of his full support in their endeavors.
