Drama Duel: ‘Shoshur Barite Eid’ Breaks YouTube Record, Surpasses ‘Boro Chhele’
In a major milestone for Bangladeshi television drama on YouTube, Shoshur Barite Eid, starring Niloy Alamgir, has broken an eight-year record, overtaking the long-held top spot of Boro Chhele, the immensely popular drama starring Ziaul Faruq Apurba.
Directed by Mohin Khan and released in April last year, Shoshur Barite Eid has garnered a staggering 54.38 million views as of Tuesday, narrowly surpassing Boro Chhele’s 54.18 million views. The latter, directed by Mizanur Rahman Aryan, had held the title of most-viewed Bangla drama on YouTube for nearly a decade.
The festive-themed comedy features Niloy Alamgir as the “jamai” (son-in-law) and Jannatul Sumaiya Himi as his wife. Veteran actors Tariq Anam Khan and Saberi Alam portray Himi’s parents. The plot revolves around Niloy’s first Eid visit to his in-laws’ house, where he is confronted by an unusually stingy father-in-law who refuses to distribute zakat and fitra. The son-in-law challenges this mindset, and the drama uses humor to deliver its social message.
Meanwhile, Boro Chhele continues to resonate with viewers as a poignant love story set within a middle-class family. Apurba’s character Rashed, the eldest son of a retiring schoolteacher, marries Ria (played by Mehazabien), the daughter of a wealthy family. Faced with economic challenges and joblessness, Rashed struggles to uphold family responsibilities, while Ria’s family arranges her remarriage—leading to a heart-wrenching end where love succumbs to harsh realities.
Following the viral success of these two dramas, Bhulo Na Amay, directed by Zakaria Soukhin and released two years ago, now stands in third place with 49.8 million views. The romantic drama stars the duo of Mushfiq R. Farhan and Keya Payel and continues to draw a loyal audience.
The shifting rankings reflect not only evolving viewer tastes but also the growing global reach of Bangladeshi drama content on digital platforms like YouTube.
