Increased Passenger Traffic on Air Routes to Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar on the Fourth Day of Eid

On the fourth day of Eid-ul-Fitr, air travel routes to Dhaka and the tourist hub of Cox’s Bazar experienced a surge in passenger demand. Many travelers who had booked their tickets in advance utilized air travel throughout Thursday, April 3.

According to sources in the aviation sector, this year’s extended nine-day holiday has influenced travel patterns. With offices set to reopen next week, many holidaymakers who traveled to their hometowns are now returning to Dhaka. Simultaneously, some travelers, having returned to the capital, are now heading to Cox’s Bazar for leisure trips.

Since there are no direct flights from many districts to Cox’s Bazar, some passengers first fly to Dhaka and then transfer to flights bound for Cox’s Bazar. This has contributed to the increased inbound air traffic to the capital. A particularly high number of passengers were observed traveling from northern districts such as Saidpur and Rajshahi to Dhaka by air.

Airlines Respond to Passenger Demand

Boshra Islam, General Manager of Public Relations at Biman Bangladesh Airlines, stated, "There is high passenger demand on all inbound routes to Dhaka. We are also operating special flights. Those who booked tickets in advance have benefited."

Similarly, Kamrul Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of US-Bangla Airlines, confirmed the increased travel volume, saying, "We do not have additional flights on the Cox’s Bazar route today, yet there is high passenger demand. However, the rush of travelers returning to Dhaka is more pronounced."

The influx of travelers is expected to continue as the extended Eid holidays near their end and workplaces gradually resume operations in the coming days.
