The two-day ‘Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026’ has commenced at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Starting on Tuesday morning, November 3, 2026, the exhibition has drawn a massive influx of visitors eager to explore solar power technologies and products offered by various institutions. Crowds thronged the expo to witness eco-friendly energy solutions for household use, irrigation, and industrial applications presented through affordable solar packages and modern solutions.

Visitors eagerly explored solar panels, inverters, batteries, and advanced energy technologies across various stalls. The expo showcased cutting-edge technologies for solar power generation and storage, with visitors showing particular interest in rooftop solar power plant installations, industrial solar applications, and power-saving technologies. Representatives from participating organizations briefed visitors on product usage, capacity, and potential costs.

The two-day event featured a wide array of modern equipment, including solar panels, inverters, smart grid technologies, and advanced battery storage systems. Financial institutions, project developers, and service providers offering project financing, easy-term loans, and technical assistance also participated. Stalls representing financial and social development organizations such as Huawei Technologies Bangladesh Limited, Itel Energy, Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited (BIFFL), and TMSS promoted solar project financing and technologies.

Abir Hasan, a businessman from old Dhaka visiting the expo, noted that planning to use solar power at home and office brought him to the fair, and finding all information from inverters to complete solar home systems under one roof was extremely convenient. Organized with the resolve to expand rooftop solar power, attract private investment, and promote renewable energy under the motto ‘Utilize Every Inch of Roof, Increase Income through Solar Power’, the expo featured four special seminars discussing rooftop solar expansion in government establishments, residential and industrial sectors, energy security, employment, and private investment potentials.

The country's first solar expo was jointly organized by the Power Division (Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources) and Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL). Md. Mehedi Hasan, Senior Executive (Corporate Sales) at Akij Bashir Cables, stated that overall demand and awareness for solar power have surged in Bangladesh, prompting them to showcase various connection technologies including solar cables at the fair.

Nasir Ahmed, Director and CTO of Solaric, stated that rooftop solar has created a new economic and eco-friendly trend in industrial and residential buildings. Solaric's notable projects include a 52-megawatt-peak rooftop solar project built for Youngone Corporation at the Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in Chattogram, which the company claims is the world's largest rooftop solar EPC project. In addition, Solaric has installed a 28-megawatt-peak solar power plant for the Ha-Meem Group. Engineer Naznin Akter, Business Development Director of the company, expressed hope that expanding cost-effective and sustainable solar power in the industrial sector would accelerate the country's long-term energy security and sustainable economic development.

Terming the initiative highly timely, Sheikh Anwar Sadat, Head of CRMD at TMSS, stated that installing solar panels on rooftops of homes and industrial establishments is imperative to ensure future energy security and secure uninterrupted power at low costs. Mahbubur Rahman, a visitor from Rangpur, visited the fair driven by an interest in utilizing renewable energy alongside national grid electricity and exploring business opportunities in the sector, specifically seeking to learn about collecting and marketing solar panels and inverters.

To highlight government policy support and tax exemptions on solar power usage, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) set up a stall at the expo to inform general visitors, entrepreneurs, and investors about various facilities. Md. Tareq, First Secretary at NBR, stated that the government is providing special customs duty benefits on importing necessary machinery and equipment for setting up solar power plants, exempting commercial importers and stakeholders from all customs duties and taxes except a 1% customs duty, alongside long-term tax holidays or income tax benefits for investments in this sector. Furthermore, individual citizens using solar power at home can claim a 5% rebate on paid utility bills in their annual income tax returns.

Electrical engineer Mirajul Islam shared that attending out of curiosity revealed significant and encouraging progress in solar power technology, with improving product quality marking good news for the country's renewable energy sector. Mahbubur Rahman, a student from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at Green University attending with teachers, remarked that the opportunity to directly observe solar panels and power generation systems outside the classroom was an invaluable experience.

Organizers expect the expo to generate new investment opportunities in the solar power sector while enhancing communication among domestic and international technology providers, investors, and industrial enterprises, thereby reinforcing national energy security alongside expanding renewable energy use.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated the expo as the chief guest. The inaugural session was presided over by Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder, and Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mirana Mahirukh, along with various government ministers, state ministers, and senior officials, were also present at the event. //DBTech/SMC/DSE/FOE//
