Reinforcing computational engineering capabilities, ethical deployment of artificial intelligence, and multilateral technical collaboration across the Islamic Ummah, the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) celebrated its 38th Convocation on 11 October, Sunday. The ceremony was hosted at the university campus in Gazipur, featuring Minister of Education Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon as the chief guest and distinguished academician Prof. Dr. Mohammad Kaykobad as the convocation speaker.

The convocation conferred degrees upon 659 graduating students, comprising 626 undergraduates and 33 postgraduates (including 2 Ph.D., 23 M.Sc. Engg., and 8 M.Sc. TE candidates). The demographic split included 482 male and 177 female scholars. While 626 graduates were local students, 33 international engineers represented 15 distinct OIC member states. Seven exceptional performers were awarded gold medals, led by Sumaiya Ahmed Rani (B.Sc. Engg. CSE), who secured the OIC Gold Medal with an outstanding CGPA of 3.994 out of 4.00. Institutional IUT Gold Medals were awarded to Ashfak Siraj Shuvo (ME), Muhammed Shafayat Jamil (EEE), Khalid Hasan Ador (SWE), Adiba Zahin (CE), Farhan Labib (BBA-TM), and Tasfiah Mahmood (IPE). Departmental degree distributions accounted for 155 in CSE, 149 in EEE, 147 in MPE, 126 in CEE, 57 in BTM, and 25 in TVE.

Addressing the graduates, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon highlighted that the global engineering landscape is undergoing rapid restructuring due to algorithmic automation and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that while autonomous systems generate instant answers, human professional judgment remains essential to verify the safety, precision, and contextual validity of computational outputs. He challenged young engineers to bridge lab research with community needs, developing cost-effective solutions for agriculture, healthcare diagnostics, manufacturing waste mitigation, and structural safety to benefit underserved segments of society.

Recalling the institution's heritage, the minister commemorated Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's foresight in laying the foundation stone on 27 March 1981 alongside Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and then-OIC Secretary General Dr. Habib Chatty. He also honored former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia's decisive role in elevating the centre into a full-fledged international university in 2001. Aligning IUT's technical focus with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's policy agenda on technical skills development and economic modernization, he called for industry partnerships and polytechnic instructor development.

Presided over by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Mamun Bin Ibne Reaz, the assembly included PMO Adviser Mahdi Amin, OIC Secretariat representatives, and members of the Governing Board, establishing a shared commitment toward advancing science and engineering across OIC member states.
