CUET Researchers Shine Globally Again
Six CUET Teachers Rank in Top 2%
- Six CUET teachers made the global top 2% researcher list.
- Four academic departments are represented in the ranking.
- Research impact and citations were key evaluation indicators
Six teachers of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have been included in the global list of the top 2 percent of researchers, highlighting the university’s growing presence in international scientific research. The list was jointly published by Stanford University in the United States and Netherlands-based academic publisher Elsevier.
Four CUET teachers were included in the list last year. This year, two more professors have joined them. The six researchers represent four academic departments: three from Physics, one from Chemistry, one from Biomedical Engineering and one from Mechanical Engineering.
Physics professor Dr Md Ashraf Ali ranks highest among the CUET researchers. He is ranked 1,418th worldwide in the Applied Physics subfield. He has a total of 88 research papers.
Professor Dr Md Mahiuddin, also from the Physics Department, has 87 research papers and ranks 4,541st worldwide in Applied Physics.
Another Physics professor, Dr Md Mukter Hossain, has 81 research papers and ranks 5,119th worldwide in the same subfield.
Chemistry professor Dr Yunus Ahmed ranks 426th worldwide in the General Chemistry subfield. He has a total of 34 research papers.
Dr Sumit Majumdar, an assistant professor in CUET’s Biomedical Engineering Department, ranks 941st worldwide in Analytical Chemistry. He has 20 research papers.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr Md Mostafa Kamal Bhuiya of the Mechanical Engineering Department ranks 7,350th worldwide in the subfield of reliable energy. He has 44 research papers.
The Stanford-Elsevier ranking does not assess researchers solely on the number of research papers. Research impact and citations are also given significant weight. The list is compiled by analysing data on millions of researchers worldwide contained in the Scopus database.
Researchers qualify for the list if they rank among the world’s top 100,000 scientists based on their C-score or fall within the top 2 percent of researchers in a specific scientific subfield. The evaluation divides the scientific community into 22 major fields and 174 subfields.
