Technology giant Google has unveiled a new experimental artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform designed to remove the need for complex skills such as coding and digital art in game development.

Called “Playground”, the platform allows ordinary users to create games simply by providing written instructions or prompts. Through an interface as easy to use as a conventional AI chatbot, users can create 2D or 3D games designed for either single-player or multiplayer experiences.

Create Games Simply by Writing Prompts

Users can begin designing a game in Google Playground by entering an entirely new prompt or using one of several pre-designed examples. After generating an initial version, they can modify the game’s rules, physics and graphics according to their preferences.

For example, in a platform game, users can instruct the system through a prompt to add a “double-jump” feature, allowing the player character to jump higher than normal. By providing a series of instructions, users can gradually develop the game into a more complete experience.

Sharing Features and Advanced Technology

Users can keep their games completely private or share them directly with friends through a link. They can also publish their creations in a gallery called “Playground Explore”, where other gamers can discover and play them. The gallery will also feature leaderboards showing players’ scores and achievements.

To improve the quality and professionalism of the games, Google plans to introduce “Unity Spark” technology to the platform soon. This is expected to make it easier to create high-quality 3D games with more sophisticated and dynamic gameplay.

Availability and Access

Playground is currently available through its official website to users aged 18 and above in the United States. Access and usage benefits will vary depending on the user’s Google One subscription tier.

Google plans to introduce additional features to the AI-powered game development platform in the future.
