Robotic Surgery Facilities To Launch Soon
Seventeen Radiotherapy Machines To Expand Cancer Care
- Government acquiring seventeen new radiotherapy machines to broaden cancer treatment
- Five medical robotic surgery units scheduled for deployment within this year
- Nationwide year-long family planning campaign starting December 1 2026 announced.
To decentralize specialized medical care and integrate advanced clinical technologies into the national healthcare network, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken a major initiative to enhance cancer treatment accessibility. As part of this drive, seventeen modern radiotherapy machines are being procured for deployment across Bangladesh, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain announced on Wednesday (October 7, 2026).
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Ministry's conference room in the Secretariat, the Minister outlined a sci-tech-driven roadmap to modernize oncology and surgical workflows nationwide.
The briefing was attended by Health Services Division Secretary Dr. A. N. M. Bazlur Rashid, Health Education Division Secretary A. K. M. Benjamin Rieazi, and Director General of Health Services Professor Dr. Probhat Chandra Biswas, alongside senior health officials.
The Minister detailed that out of the seventeen newly acquired radiotherapy machines, six will be installed in Dhaka and eleven across regional medical centers outside the capital. This strategic distribution will allow cancer patients to access affordable, state-of-the-art radiation therapy locally, significantly reducing patient overload on Dhaka-based tertiary hospitals.
He highlighted that along with expanding cancer treatment infrastructure outside the capital, the government is prioritizing the deployment of precision biomedical engineering. Bangladesh is preparing to introduce robotic surgery in public healthcare, with plans to import five out of the ten required robotic surgical units within 2026.
Addressing national population and reproductive health initiatives, the Minister announced a comprehensive year-long family planning campaign running from December 1, 2026, to November 30, 2027. Grassroots outreach will involve door-to-door distribution of reproductive health products alongside counseling.
Regarding the national dengue situation, the Minister confirmed that patient management and IV fluid supplies are being maintained in strict alignment with World Health Organization (WHO) protocols. In light of shifting dengue viral strains and post-dengue cardiac complications, physicians have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance, while local authorities continue vector control and cleanliness awareness drives.
