Banglalink Starlink Launch Satellite To Mobile Service

Fusing low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations with terrestrial mobile networks, digital operator Banglalink has made history by launching South Asia's first commercial ‘Satellite-to-Mobile’ direct-to-cell communications service in strategic partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink. The breakthrough deployment establishes Bangladesh as the pioneer across the South Asian corridor to bridge critical connectivity blind spots using space-grade cellular data protocols.

According to industry sources, the milestone rollout was formally announced on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The technical integration ensures seamless mobile network availability across zones situated entirely outside traditional terrestrial cellular tower grids, neutralizing geographic barriers across remote terrain and maritime territories.

Highlighting the launch, Banglalink Chief Executive Officer Johan Buse stated to the press that human-centric connectivity drives the company's innovation roadmap. He emphasized that whether an offshore fisherman needs to reach his family or a citizen stranded in deep wilderness requires distress assistance, distance must never impede communication. He reiterated that leveraging frontier technology to generate tangible daily benefits remains the core mission of a forward-looking digital operator, ensuring that wherever the sky is visible, network continuity remains unbroken.

The space-based infrastructure is engineered to function as a resilient safeguard during extreme climatic disasters, catastrophic cyclones, or long-term electrical blackouts that typically knock out land-based base transceiver stations (BTS). The service provides a lifeline for offshore fishermen operating in deep-sea vessels, isolated island dwellers, remote mountain settlements, and adventure tourists. Coverage extends across Bangladesh’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the deep waters of the Bay of Bengal, ending long-standing maritime digital isolation.

On the architectural front, the deployment requires zero specialized proprietary hardware; users require only an active Banglalink SIM card paired with any standard, commercial 4G-enabled smartphone to link directly to satellite transponders under an open sky. In dead zones, subscribers can utilize essential utility applications, access location-based tracking, and transmit emergency alerts. During the launch month, users purchasing any regular data or hybrid pack gain access to Starlink connectivity at no added cost, alongside five complimentary monthly satellite SMS transmissions.
