Three-day event features six competitions
- Taramon Bibi Hall has launched a three-day annual sports competition.
- Events include carrom, chess, basketball throw, table tennis, ludo and badminton.
- Speakers urged students to value discipline, integrity and co-curricular activities.
The three-day ‘Inter-Hall Annual Sports Competition 2026’ has begun at Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi Hall of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) in a festive atmosphere, featuring the theme “Tarader Kriranandan”.
The opening ceremony was held at 6pm on Monday, 5 October. JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iarul Kabir formally inaugurated the ‘Inter-Hall Annual Sports Week 2026’ as the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan and Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Faruk Hasan attended as special guests. Dr Farhana Yasmin, Provost of Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi Hall, chaired the programme.
Before the inauguration, the hall’s gymnasium and a wall magazine titled “July Canvas”, created by students, were inaugurated. The hall administration also arranged a tea gathering for the students.
The competition features six events for students of Taramon Bibi Hall: carrom, chess, basketball throw, table tennis, ludo and badminton.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iarul Kabir said, “Alongside academic studies, students must develop themselves through sports and co-curricular activities. Our responsibility is to create opportunities and facilities, but the responsibility of developing themselves rests with the students. They must maintain a disciplined living environment in the hall while preserving cordial relations with one another. They must regard the hall and university as their own and demonstrate the qualities of responsible citizens.”
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan said, “Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi represents a unique and courageous history of the Liberation War, which is a matter of immense pride for us. We believe the students of this hall, named after her, will also bring honour to the country through their skills, professional knowledge and human qualities. Female students participated equally and courageously alongside male students in the 2024 mass uprising. To build a new Bangladesh on the strength of that achievement, we must first develop ourselves as honest and ideal citizens.”
Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Faruk Hasan said, “The university administration is always beside students in ensuring their legitimate rights and the overall development of academic and co-curricular activities. The freedom achieved at the university must never turn into arbitrariness; rather, we must remain firm in our conscience and sense of responsibility. We must leave negativity behind and nurture the positive aspects. Through transparency and integrity, our female students will one day set outstanding examples at home and on the global stage.”
