VIENNA/DHAKA: In a move to expand international exposure and professional development for domestic researchers and civil service officers, Bangladesh has called for broadened internship pathways and recruitment opportunities at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The initiative was highlighted during a bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Md. Anwar Hossain, and IAEA Deputy Director General for Management and Head of Human Resources Margaret Doane, held in Vienna on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
The meeting focused on facilitating technical internships, targeted fellowship programs, and mid-to-senior level appointments for qualified Bangladeshi professionals across various technical and administrative divisions of the agency. Discussions underscored the importance of integrating Bangladeshi youth, academics, and technical personnel into frontier scientific workflows to build specialized competencies in nuclear engineering and research.
Both sides highlighted expanding bilateral cooperation to reinforce Bangladesh’s technical readiness for the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology. Strengthening institutional expertise and human capital remains a vital pillar for advancing the nation's nuclear infrastructure safely and sustainably.
The delegation included Toufiq Hasan, Bangladesh’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN and International Organizations in Vienna, alongside Dr. M. Moinul Islam, Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).
