Artificial intelligence powerhouse Anthropic, the company behind the globally popular Claude chatbot, has officially begun the process of going public. In a blog post published on June 1, the company announced that it has confidentially submitted a draft registration statement for an initial public offering (IPO) to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The AI giant, currently valued at approximately $965 billion, has not yet disclosed the number of shares it intends to offer or the proposed pricing. The timing of the IPO will depend on market conditions and other factors, according to the company.
The confidential filing comes less than a week after Anthropic completed a record-breaking $65 billion Series H funding round, pushing the company's valuation to $965 billion. Major institutional investors, including Sequoia Capital, Coatue, Altimeter Capital, and Greenoaks, participated in the financing round amid growing expectations of a public listing.
A confidential IPO filing allows a company to begin SEC review procedures without immediately disclosing sensitive financial information, business risks, and other internal details to the public. If Anthropic proceeds with the offering, it will later publish a formal S-1 registration statement containing comprehensive financial disclosures and shareholder voting structures.
Anthropic's move comes amid one of the most active technology IPO periods in recent history. Industry observers view the filing as a major milestone in the increasingly competitive race among leading AI companies seeking access to public capital markets. Analysts suggest the offering could become one of the largest technology IPOs ever if completed at or near its current valuation.
The filing also places Anthropic ahead of several major rivals pursuing public listings, making it one of the most closely watched offerings in the global technology sector.
Founded in 2021 by former members of OpenAI, Anthropic initially emerged as a smaller competitor in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Over the past several years, however, the company has established a strong position in the enterprise AI market, particularly through its Claude family of models and AI-assisted coding tools.
The company's growth has been extraordinary. Recent reports indicate that Anthropic's annualized revenue run rate has surged dramatically, fueled by increasing demand for AI-powered software development, enterprise automation, and advanced language models.
While the confidential filing marks a significant step toward a public debut, many key details remain unknown. Investors and analysts are now awaiting the eventual publication of Anthropic's S-1 filing, which will provide a clearer picture of the company's financial performance, governance structure, risks, and future growth strategy.
If the IPO proceeds as expected, Anthropic's market debut could become one of the defining financial events of the AI era, offering the first major public-market test of investor appetite for trillion-dollar artificial intelligence companies.
