In the era of modern science, engineering, and digital technology, the unchecked usage of online social media platforms has accelerated the spread of misinformation. It is claimed that the lack of advanced digital verification systems on social media enables rumors to proliferate rapidly. Recently, without any authentic source, fake news regarding the death of the celebrated Dhallywood actor, producer, and director Elias Kanchan began circulating widely online.

However, Liton Ershad, Vice Chairman of the 'Nirapad Sarak Chai' (Nischa) central committee, stated that Elias Kanchan is doing well and the news of his death is completely a rumor. Liton Ershad stated, "Elias Kanchan is doing well. Misinformation is being spread to create confusion." Concurrently, relatives and close acquaintances of Elias Kanchan have urged the public not to be misled by rumors circulating on social media platforms. According to them, spreading such rumors without verified facts from reliable sources must be avoided.

Earlier, Elias Kanchan's family had also dismissed similar death reports as baseless on multiple occasions. The acclaimed actor, who has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor, is currently receiving medical care in London.

After undergoing treatment in London for more than 15 months, Elias Kanchan returned to the country on 3 August. He returned to spend some quality time with his family and close associates. Following his arrival, fellow film colleagues including Alamgir, Misha Sawdagor, Shabnam, Anowara, Suchanda, Rozina, and Champa met with him.

On 7 August, Elias Kanchan also attended the 11th Grand Rally of Nischa organized at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital. He was later scheduled to visit his ancestral home in Kishoreganj to spend time with his family.

After returning to Bangladesh, the actor expressed satisfaction with his physical condition. On the night of 9 August, he mentioned feeling much more at ease after coming back home. He noted that he enjoyed meeting and talking with everyone while requesting prayers from all so that he could complete his treatment swiftly and return permanently.

Elias Kanchan's son, Mirajul Moin Joy, also sought prayers from everyone for his father. Expressing his happiness upon seeing his father cheerful, he remarked, "My father's smile is my life. Seeing him happy makes me feel good as well."

Expert circles have emphasized the necessity of employing scientific and technological approaches to curb digital misinformation on online networks.
