Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, the newly appointed Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (LGRD), announced that legal action will be taken against those involved in corruption and irregularities within the ministry over the past 17 years. He made the statement during a press briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat on his first working day, alongside State Minister Mir Shahe Alam.
"BNP does not believe in political vengeance; however, action will be taken strictly according to the law and rules regarding corruption," Minister Khan asserted. He highlighted that mismanagement in previous years prevented underprivileged citizens from receiving essential government services, and promised to restore integrity to the local government structure.
To improve the living standards of low-income families, Minister Khan emphasized implementing welfare initiatives envisioned by Tarique Rahman, such as the 'Family Card' and 'Farmer Card'. Reminding officials that the public is the ultimate source of power, he urged them to serve with dedication.
An internationally recognized nuclear physicist and former Oxford visiting scientist, Dr. Moyeen Khan added that the ministry will focus directly on grassroots development, ensuring transparent and democratic service delivery across the nation.
