New opportunities have emerged for joint cooperation and investment between Bangladesh and Lithuania in information technology, cybersecurity and fintech. As part of efforts to strengthen bilateral commercial ties, Lithuanian Non-Resident Ambassador to Bangladesh Diana Mickeviciene met Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir. The meeting discussed expanding trade, investment and technology partnerships between the two countries.
The meeting was held on Sunday, August 16 at the Ministry of Commerce in the Secretariat. The two sides discussed economic prospects, investment cooperation and potential partnerships in technology-related sectors. Commerce Ministry Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan was also present.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said the volume of existing trade between Bangladesh and Lithuania remains limited, but there is significant scope for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
He said Lithuanian technology companies could use Bangladesh’s rapidly growing ICT sector, skilled young workforce and freelance talent to expand their operations in the South Asian market.
The minister said Bangladesh is currently a promising investment destination. Necessary facilities have been ensured for investors to repatriate investments and profits, while the country offers a stable and investment-friendly environment for international investors.
Lithuanian Non-Resident Ambassador Diana Mickeviciene said Lithuania is one of the leading countries in the world in laser technology, GovTech and fintech services. Lithuania is interested in exchanging expertise and technological cooperation to strengthen Bangladesh’s digital transformation, technological development and cybersecurity, she said.
She further said effective partnerships between the public and private sectors of the two countries could open new opportunities in technology, innovation and investment.
The meeting emphasised taking prompt and effective measures to expand bilateral trade, strengthening business-to-business contacts and pursuing joint initiatives in technology-driven sectors.
