Emphasizing the imperative need for technological upgrades, enhanced transparency, and robust accountability, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications & IT and Science & Technology, Fakir Mahbub Anam, urged officials to make both the Bangladesh Post Office and Mobile Financial Service (MFS) provider 'Nagad' more trustworthy and citizen-friendly. Dismissing recent rumors regarding the sale of Nagad as entirely baseless, the Minister affirmed that state management will continue to ensure market competitiveness, efficiency, and profitability.

The Minister made these assertions as the Chief Guest during the official launching of the 'Franchise Post Office' model and the ceremonial handover of Tk 18.57 crore—representing the Post Office's profit share from Nagad’s revenue for FY 2025–26—held on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) at the Dak Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The event was presided over by BPO-Nagad Administrator Md. Motasim Billah, with Telecom Secretary Bilkis Jahan Rimi as Special Guest, alongside Director General (Current Charge) of Bangladesh Post Office Kazi Asadul Islam, and senior ministry officials.

Refuting Rumors and Building Trust: Addressing the rumors, the Minister clarified, "Continuous initiatives are underway to popularize the Post Office. The rumors circulating regarding the sale of Nagad are completely baseless, and I advise all stakeholders not to be misled by such propaganda." He highlighted that the government remains committed to making state-owned enterprises efficient, revenue-generating, and service-oriented.

Franchise Post Office Model to Drive Employment: Inaugurating the Franchise Post Office initiative, the Minister noted that franchising post offices is a globally proven model. Replicating this system in Bangladesh will bring postal and digital financial services directly to citizens' doorsteps while opening vast employment and entrepreneurial opportunities nationwide. He assured full institutional support from the Post Office to new franchise entrepreneurs.

Nagad’s Revenue Share and Postal Service Modernization: Highlighting the progress made under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the Minister noted that achieving significant progress within six months of taking office reflects the government's commitment, with Nagad's profitability standing as a testament. Plans are underway to modernize over 9,000 post offices across the country into high-tech digital service hubs to bridge the urban-rural financial divide.

Special Guest Telecom Secretary Bilkis Jahan Rimi noted that the partnership between the Post Office and Nagad has significantly boosted public trust and government revenue, reiterating the government's firm commitment to ensuring transparent and technology-driven public services.
