The Society of Bangladeshi Pharmacists (SBP) conducted a ham awareness and free healthcare campaign on the occasion of the Bengali New Year, providing services through multiple booths set up at the Shahid President Ziaur Rahman Mausoleum Complex, Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi, and the Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.
The information was shared in a press release on Wednesday, 15 April.
Under the campaign, pharmacists provided free blood pressure checkups, free blood glucose tests, awareness counseling on measles (ham) disease, and guidance on the safe use of medicines and healthcare services.
The organization stated that this initiative is aligned with the commitment to building an improved healthcare system announced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and represents a practical step toward that goal. It also said the program was inspired by the guidance of BNP Health Affairs Secretary and Professor of Urology at Bangladesh Medical University, Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam. Students and alumni from various universities across the country spontaneously participated in the initiative, which the organization said reflects a strong example of youth engagement in public health responsibility.
SBP Convener Mohammad Zakaria Hossain said, “To build a modern and effective healthcare system, active participation of pharmacists is essential. Today’s initiative is a practical reflection of that, where public awareness, prevention, and primary healthcare are working together.”
The Society of Bangladeshi Pharmacists (SBP) also said it plans to expand such public awareness activities further across the country in the future.
