Bangladesh and the New Development Bank (NDB) have discussed potential investment, technical cooperation and future financing opportunities for transport and infrastructure development projects, with both sides agreeing to continue detailed technical engagement.

On Tuesday, 14 July, the discussions took place during a courtesy meeting between Bridge Division Secretary and Executive Director of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf and NDB Indian Regional Office Director General Dr. D. J. Pandian, who led a three-member delegation.

During the meeting, the Bridge Division highlighted Bangladesh's recent infrastructure achievements, including the Padma Bridge, Jamuna Bridge and Dhaka Elevated Expressway, outlining their contribution to national connectivity and economic development.

The two sides exchanged views on priority transport infrastructure projects, international financing opportunities and technical cooperation. The Bridge Division emphasized that support from international development partners would be important for achieving sustainable development goals and building a modern, technology-driven transport system, while stressing the need for concessional financing terms.

Dr. D. J. Pandian praised Bangladesh's progress in integrating modern technology into infrastructure development and described the country as one of South Asia's emerging economies. He said NDB is interested in becoming a development partner in Bangladesh's transport sector and will assess investment opportunities before making further decisions.

Both sides agreed that additional technical discussions would be necessary to evaluate potential NDB-funded projects. They also discussed exchanging written proposals on financing terms, eligible sectors and future cooperation, while the Bridge Division assured its full support for the process.
